Zhongtai Tea Hills

中泰 is a township-street of 余杭区 pressed into the district's south-west corner, and its hills are the reason the year's first Zhejiang bud gets picked here rather than further south. The tea is the place's actual subject: 1.55 万亩 of fields distributed across 双联, 枫岭 and 泰峰, planted to 乌牛早, 白茶, 龙井43 and 迟茶, with the first 乌牛早 of the spring taken on 13 March 2024 per 杭州日报. On 惊蛰 the district opens that season with 喊山, the shout of 茶发芽咯 down the 双联村 fields at 大朗山, village secretaries in Song-dynasty dress. The commercial machinery behind it is unusual too: 农民日报 recorded in April 2025 that eight southern villages had pooled into 杭州余杭中泰云谷乡村有限公司, with 枫岭, 双联 and 泰峰 as the core, running unified branding, cultivation technique, processing standard, packaging, tea-culture marking and industry oversight, and reporting collective income past 16 million yuan. One tension is worth carrying on any visit. Everything the district publishes about this leaf calls it 径山茶, the regional brand, while the village shops' own frontages say 龙井. Both are honest and neither is the other: this is Yuhang tea, not West Lake origin tea, and the price gap between the two is the proof. The ground itself is low and rounded, a ridge near 260 m with a paved single-lane road to its top, and the view off it faces north over 南湖, 闲林水库 and 未来科技城. Two rail heads serve it, line 5 at 南湖东 and line 16 at 中泰, both feeding the same 2494B up 石邱路. The 苕溪文化风情带 that the Tiaoxi page describes lists 中泰 among its township-streets, and the dyke corridor is a short drive west; the walking page for this street's own ridge is here, and the celebrated flute workshops of 紫荆村, which belong to the same street administratively, are 13.5 km away by road and belong to a different afternoon.
