Shanghai's industrial rust belt turned living showcase — 8.4 km of flat, free, pet-friendly riverside promenade linking cement works, fuel tanks and coal wharves to some of the city's best museums.
The West Bund (西岸) is Shanghai's most cinematic riverfront: an 8.4 km promenade along the Huangpu where the city's industrial past — a 1920 cement works, Longhua Airport's fuel tanks, the Beipiao coal wharf, a freight railway — has been turned into museums, galleries, parks and lawns. It is flat, free, open 24 hours, dog-friendly and part of the 45 km Huangpu riverside loop. The museum row runs from GATE M's Dream Center in the south to the World Expo Museum in the north, with sunset lawns and a ferry crossing to Pudong in between. Metro Lines 11, 13 and 7 serve the length of the route.
