Suzhou Creek (苏州河) runs about 54 km through Shanghai, and its central-city riverfront — 42 km of continuous promenade opened by the end of 2020 — is the city's quiet alternative to the Bund. The creek corridor packs more history per kilometre than almost anywhere in Shanghai: 1900s warehouses turned galleries, the bullet-scarred Sihang Warehouse of 1937, restored shikumen lanes, a Mazu temple, two museums, and a run of century-old bridges that ends at Waibaidu Bridge and the Lujiazui skyline. It is flat, free, stroller-friendly and endlessly photogenic, and every section is reachable by Metro lines 1, 2, 8, 10, 12 and 13.
