四明山
The literary and ecological heart of northern Zhejiang — a node of the Eastern Zhejiang Tang-poetry route and a China Natural Oxygen Bar — threaded by a 600+ km signed hiking network across eight Yuyao townships, with 16 premium routes from the Tianzhi Ridge ring on the northern flank to the 979 m Qinghuwangang circuit far south. Reached from Ningbo in under an hour at the near end.
The Siming Mountains (四明山) spread across the south of Yuyao, Ningbo — a rolling highland of forested ridges, reservoir valleys and ancient villages that carries a double reputation: a node of the 浙东唐诗之路, the Eastern Zhejiang Tang-poetry route, and a designated 'China Natural Oxygen Bar' and national climate-leisure resort. Its hiking backbone is the Siming Mountains Thousand-li Hiking Trail (四明山千里登山步道): 600+ km of signed trail across eight townships — 梨洲街道、陆埠镇、梁弄镇、河姆渡镇、大隐镇、大岚镇、四明山镇 and 鹿亭乡 — laid out as 'one horizontal, three vertical' spines, eight loops and sixteen premium routes, completed in 2024 and fitted with rest stations (旅游驿站), signage and safety warnings, all navigable in the 环浙步道 (Zhejiang Trail Loop) App. The character changes as you travel south: the northern flank around Dayin Town is lower, greener country where the Tianzhi Ridge Trail rings Shuangxikou Reservoir on a genuine mountain crest close to Ningbo; the interior climbs through tea terraces and cloud forest to the range's high ground — 青虎湾岗 at 979 m is Ningbo's highest peak — with autumn colour as the system's headline season.
