Shanghai's western lake country — Dianshan Lake, the city's largest freshwater lake, ringed by four routes from a family ride to a full 45 km loop, with the water towns of Zhujiajiao and Jinze, the 1987 Dream of the Red Chamber gardens, and Shanghai's oldest ginkgo.
Qingpu is Shanghai's far-western lake and water-town district: Dianshan Lake (~62 km², the source of the Huangpu) anchors it, with the canal towns of Zhujiajiao and Jinze on its shores. Four routes cover the area — the ~20 km scenic short line from the Grand View Garden to Zhujiajiao, the ~31 km family ride between the two towns, the full ~45 km clockwise lake loop for cyclists, and the east-shore leisure line of lawns, camps, ginkgo avenues and sunset points. Most of the area is flat, free, and an hour from central Shanghai; Metro Line 17 reaches Zhujiajiao, Oriental Land and the lake's south shore.
